Earlier in the summer I met Steve Cliffe, the editor of Stockport Heritage magazine and discussed my architectural photography of Stockport town centre and how it may be used in their bi-monthly publication. I also explained that Inspiral Photography was planning a photoshoot of Christ Church in Heaton Norris. This ruined church’s spire dominates the climb out of Stockport heading towards Manchester. The church has been ruined since 1977 when a devastating fire left all but the spire standing. It is a fine example of Gothic Victorian architecture and is in the care of the Churches Conservation Trust. The church’s raised elevation also gives a good view of the historic warehouse opposite now used as commercial storage units. I spent a couple of hours photographing the spire and grounds in late June and it was fascinating to study the architectural details of this once magnificent church. Within the churchyard are a number of Commonwealth war graves.
